So you say, Where are all the kite flying photos?

And I say, Go fly a kite.

The absence of pics featuring us with kites soaring gracefully above our heads serves as a very accurate telling of the day. The fact of the matter is - not many kites were flying that day. Personally I think all future occasions should be called “Try to Fly a Kite Day” because that is what most of us did – we tried. If one might say, "Maybe you had a bum kite". I might responsed "Pricey kites, cheap kites, free kites, homemade kites, kites made of of tissue, kites made of plastic grocery bags, there was even a family heirloom kite and none stayed airborne very long". Nonetheless we made some new friends and had an absolute blast. My advice - follow the old adage, “If a first you don't succeed…” put the kite on your head and take a cute photo - hince the photo on the right.

G.J.’s Summer Celebration (2009)

Summer kicked off with GJ’s Summer Celebration at Victorian Gardens in Central Park. It was a fab-tastic day. A bit like having a family reunion at a carnival, and absolutely one of the best get-togethers ever. I wish folks did better at arriving on time but we can’t control everything. Mother Nature second that with a quick & heavy douse of rain at the end of our modest summer tribute. Tardiness, rain and all – it was a great and super start to the summer and I am looking forward to the next .

Wow. it has almost been a year since my last post. Maybe I have been to busy living life that recording it. Nonetheless, it has been a good year for George and I. We can't complain. George had another great summer at camp. His first few days of school have been good. He has a new teacher (Thank Goodness). She seems to know what she is doing with my boy. In a few weeks we head off to Disney World yet again. Our July trip proved eventful with George in found love for the pool. July was a blast and I hope this next one will be just as fun. I'll try not to wait an entire year to post.

Happy Birthday to Me ( and Big George too)

So BIG GEORGE and I celebrated our birthdays in October. (If you haven't been formally introduced to BIG GEORGE- he is little george's dad). And if it is October that must mean that we have taken another trip to Universal Studios and Disney World (which is fast becoming an annual ritual for us). In an attempt to keep it short & sweet here are a few photos and highlights from the trip:
*weather was georgous.
*our access to theRoyal Pacific Resort Club Room was EXCELLECT and well worth the $$$.
* Finally took a ride on The Hulk at Islands of Adventure - wild.
*'Climbed' Everest at Animal Kingdom (twice) - great fun.
*Went to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party - Always a good time but if you've done it once you don't need to do it twice. Atleast not for a long while.
*Rode Dr. Suess's Train Trolley (New at Islands of Adventure) - a leisurely ride.
* Checked Out Turtle Talk with Crush from Finding Nemo at Epoct - It was Awesome Dude, Way Cool.
*Had and Excellent Buffet Dinner at Boma: an Animal Kingdom Resort Resturant. They gave GEORGE and I Happy BirthdayCookies (see photo).
* Had a few excellent dinners at the Royal Pacific Resorts bottom floor resturant. They have the coolest room for kids to play in while you have dinner. Kids Buffet sucks - Pick from the regular kids menu.
* Became highly addicted to Disney Pin Trading - Stay away if only for the sakeof your wallet.
*Recieved an abbreivated, impromptu tour of a Savanah Room at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. There are real live animals right outside of these rooms, the lobby area is gorgeous. We are planning to stay there for two days on our next trip.
* This trip we stayed at Disney's All Star Sports budget resort. Excellect for the money and if you have kids. Our preffered accommodation is Disney's Port Orlean Riverside.
and saving the best for last - i truly enjoyed watching the fireworks at Magic Kingdom with GEORGE, george, and my two nephews "the jordan's". They were really into it and it was, for me, really special.

Our Summer Highlights: Camp

This summer marks George’s first voyage into the realm of summer camp. Following a very bumpy year in kindergarten I was determined to make his first official summer one to remember. After an exhaustive search for a camp that could accommodate the special needs of my speech and language delayed five year old I found a perfect match at the 92nd Street Y. The entrance interview lifted a weight off my shoulders. Our visit to their Rockland County campgrounds had us floating on Cloud 9. A few weeks later George and I would meet his camp counselor Keren – she was the icing on the cake.

The first day of camp seems like it was yesterday, but here we are seven weeks later already counting down the days to Summer 2007. It was a wonderful experience for George and I. Every morning he woke up and announced excitedly “time for camp”. Remote were George’s lukewarm morning mumbles of “time to go to school”. Every morning, after I dropped him off, I trekked peacefully to work unconcerned about what type of day he would have. Unlike the nerve racking mornings and afternoons of the past school year. At days end I couldn’t wait to read Keren’s daily communication journal entry about what he had done that day. Everyday it read of a myriad of art, music and nature explorations otherwise unlikey.The journal was an enormous help considering George’s limited language ability. To top it off you could tell that Keren truly enjoyed her day with George and clearly he felt the same. George is more than a handful but Keren seemed to really get George and all of his unpredictable ways. She got to know the sweet, funny, loving and affectionate character that I know.

His father and I (both deprived of the camp experience) agreed that this has been the best social experience of his life thus far (and having a smart and pretty girl like Keren to help facilitate the day didn’t hurt either).
